Product Information
- 4-tert-Butoxyphenol
- Phenol, 4-(1,1-dimethylethoxy)-
4-(tert-Butoxy)phenol is a molecule that inhibits the tyrosinase enzyme and is used for the treatment of skin disorders. It has minimal toxicity and does not affect other enzymes in the body. 4-(tert-Butoxy)phenol is an alkoxyphenol, which binds to tyrosinase by competitive inhibition and prevents it from oxidizing tyrosine to produce melanin. The activity of this compound can be increased by co-administration of P450 inhibitors, such as ketoconazole or erythromycin, which inhibit the cytochrome P450 system. The target molecule for 4-(tert-Butoxy)phenol is the active site of tyrosinase, where its side chain cleavage increases its potency in inhibiting this enzyme. 4-(tert-Butoxy)phenol also has a structural similarity to phenols found in bacterial cells, which may explain its minimal toxicity against these organisms.
