Benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid is a chemical compound that reacts with water to produce a diphenyl ether as a by-product. This substance has been shown to have hydrogen bonding and hydroxyl group properties. It is also known for its thermal expansion property, which increases when heated. Benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid is used in the cross-linking of polyesters, particularly the manufacture of polyurethane foam insulation. The reaction products are aliphatic hydrocarbons. The chemical composition of benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid includes C6H4O2C(O)OC5H5, which consists of an aromatic ring and five carbon atoms linked together with oxygen atoms to form five rings and two carboxyl groups on opposite sides of the molecule.
