4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene is a reactive substance that is used to detect the presence of all-trans retinoic acid (tretinoin) in biological samples. It reacts with tretinoin by forming a covalent bond with the benzene ring, thereby altering its spectral properties. The detection time after exposure to 4-(diethylamino)azobenzene is about 24 hours. 4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene has been shown to induce genotoxic effects in hl-60 cells and k562 cells, as well as carcinogenic potential in liver cells and nuclear DNA damage in human liver cells. This compound also interacts with other substances, such as hydrochloric acid, due to its steric properties.
