4-(4-Butylphenylazo)phenol is a surfactant that is used in optical and semiconductor products. It has an incommensurate skeleton, which means that the distance between the atoms in the molecule is not a whole number. 4-(4-Butylphenylazo)phenol can be used to form wormlike micelles with water molecules, which have the ability to clean surfaces and remove dirt. This chemical also has polarities that are macroscopic, meaning they are able to be seen by humans. 4-(4-Butylphenylazo)phenol diffracts light at high angles and has viscosity of about 1 cP. When irradiated with light, it gives off an optical glow.
