It has been shown to be an attractant for the triatomine bug and reduviidae, which are insects that transmit Chagas disease. 3-Methyl-2-hexanone is also used as a pesticide and in polymerized form as a microcapsule for the treatment of urinalysis samples. The structure of 3-methyl-2-hexanone consists of a linear response with four carbon atoms. The compound contains two carbonyl groups, which are common in organic acids, and can be broken down by bond cleavage. 3-Methyl-2-hexanone has been detected in human urine at concentrations ranging from 0.04 to 8.9 µg/L, depending on age and sex.
