Description:
Alodane is a pethidine derivative that is used as an analgesic drug. It is a strong opioid agonist, with a potency of 100 times morphine. Alodane has been shown to bind to the mu-opioid receptor and stimulate the production of cytokines in humans and recombinant cells. In a blind study, alodane was found to be more potent than morphine for relief of pain. Alodane also has activity against molting in chicks and is being investigated for use as an analgesic in humans.
