9-Oxo-nonanoic acid is a fatty acid that is synthesized by the liver and has been shown to have health effects on humans. It is a hydrogen bond donor, which can lead to lipid peroxidation. The rate of 9-oxo-nonanoic acid formation in vitro is dependent on the acyl chain length. Acyl chains with 16 or 18 carbons are more likely to form 9-oxo-nonanoic acid than those with 14 or 16 carbons. Studies using monoclonal antibodies have shown that 9-oxo-nonanoic acid may be involved in the regulation of cell growth and the immune system.
9-Oxo-nonanoic acid also has particle properties, which means it will be absorbed by lipoproteins, taken up by cells, and distributed throughout the body. This property makes it ideal for use as an imaging agent for positron emission tomography (PET). Solanum tuberosum
