N-Benzoyl-L-tyrosine is a hydrolase enzyme that hydrolyzes the disulfide bonds in proteins. It has been immobilized on Sephadex G-100 and shown to have a broad range of substrate specificity, with an optimum pH of 7.2. The enzyme also has proteolytic activity against casein and soybean trypsin. N-Benzoyl-L-tyrosine is able to hydrolyze protein substrates such as synthetic peptides, human serum albumin, and casein. This enzyme has been used for the study of protein synthesis in the cell membrane preparations from HL60 cells and for the study of proteolysis in cell extracts from H9 cells.
