Product Information
- Gallium Triethanolate
Gallium(III) ethoxide is a hydroxyl-containing compound that is an oxide of gallium. It is used in the manufacture of optical coatings, photocatalysts, and as a catalyst. Gallium(III) ethoxide can be synthesized by reacting gallium metal with ethanol in the presence of hydrochloric acid. The crystalline structure of gallium(III) ethoxide varies depending on the synthesis conditions. The most common form has a tetragonal crystal system with space group P4/nmm (No. 184). This compound can be identified by its NMR spectra which show peaks at δ = 0.3 ppm for the hydroxyl group, δ = 4.5 ppm for the oxide group, and δ = 8.2 ppm for the gallium atom. Gallium(III) ethoxide is reactive and emits light when exposed to UV radiation or heat, making it useful for optical purposes such as patterning and
