Description:

2-Propylpropane-1,3-diol is a diol that is used as an additive in food products. It is a liquefying agent and has been shown to have cerebral effects such as degranulation, liquefying, and propanediol. 2-Propylpropane-1,3-diol also functions as an additive in the production of polyurethane foams and plastics. The optimum temperature for this chemical is between 100 and 110 degrees Celsius. This product also has functional groups (ethoxy) that can be cleaved by acid catalysts.
2-Propylpropane-1,3-diol is synthesized from propylene oxide through a reaction with an acid catalyst followed by hydrogenation of the resulting alcohol.
