Description:

1-(4-Methoxybenzyl)-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1H-benzo[D]imidazole (MIBI) is a hydroxyl radical scavenger that selectively targets mitochondria in cells. MIBI has shown anticancer activity against a variety of cancer cell lines, including colon, prostate, breast, leukemia, and lymphoma. The mechanisms of action by which MIBI inhibits cancer cell growth may be due to its ability to induce caspase activation in the mitochondria. MIBI has been shown to inhibit the growth of intestinal bacteria such as lactococcus and E. coli in vivo studies. This compound can also be used for the fabrication of polymers with high molecular weight and high degree of polymerization.
