Product Information

Name:
1-Phenyl-1H-benzoimidazole
Synonyms:
  • 1H-benzimidazole, 1-phenyl-
  • 1-Phenyl-1H-Benzoimidazole
Description:

1-Phenyl-1H-benzoimidazole (1PB) is a hydrogen bond donor that is used as a growth factor. It has been shown to inhibit the activation of benzimidazole compounds and has photochemical properties. 1PB has been found to increase the size of tumors in mice and may be an effective treatment for cancer. The activated form of 1PB reacts with DNA, RNA, and proteins to form adducts that bind tightly to the DNA and cause mutations. 1PB can also be used in electrochemical studies as it binds electrochemically to a surface electrode and increases its electrical resistance. This binding is reversible so that the electrode can function again after the molecule has been removed by applying a potential difference across it.
