6β-Chloro-17-acetoxy progesterone (6β-CA) is a synthetic progestin that is used as a contraceptive. It is the only progestin with a long duration of action and has been shown to be effective in preventing ovulation, implantation, and fertility. 6β-CA has also been shown to have antigonadotropic effects by decreasing serum concentrations of estradiol and inhibiting the production of testosterone. The clinical use of 6β-CA for the treatment of prostatic hypertrophy, endometriosis, or premenstrual syndrome has not been well studied. 6β-CA has been found to be less potent than cyproterone acetate but more potent than medroxyprogesterone acetate.
