2'-Methyl-4'-nitroacetanilide is a nitro derivative of acetanilide. It is a colorless solid that reacts with electrophiles to form adducts. This compound has been used in the synthesis of cationic quaternary ammonium salts, which are used as ion exchangers and as catalysts for organic reactions. 2'-Methyl-4'-nitroacetanilide can also be used to synthesize homologues by reacting with an alcohol. The reaction mixture is diluted with water to prevent over-reaction.
