Triethyltin bromide is a hydroxyl group-containing organotin compound that is used as a cox-2 inhibitor. It has shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandins in human serum, which are involved in inflammation and pain. Triethyltin bromide also blocks the mitochondrial membrane potential, leading to the death of HL-60 cells by reactive oxygen species. Triethyltin bromide also inhibits locomotor activity and cardiac function in rats. This drug may have biological properties due to its ability to inhibit pyrimidine synthesis, which is required for DNA replication. The triethyltin bromide molecule also interacts with ATP levels, which may account for its effects on cell proliferation and differentiation.
