Product Information
3-Propylbenzene-1,2-diol is a naturally occurring substance that is metabolized by the human body to 3-phenoxybenzoic acid. It has been shown to inhibit monooxygenase activity in a variety of organs and tissues including the liver, kidney, and brain. 3-Propylbenzene-1,2-diol is found in small amounts in many foods including fruit juices, beer, and wine. This compound has also been shown to inhibit histidine decarboxylase activity in rat kidney cells. The short-chain form (3PD) has been shown to have higher antimicrobial properties than the long chain form (3P). 3PD inhibits growth of bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis at concentrations as low as 0.5 mM.
