Product Information
3-(Carbamoylamino)-2-methylpropanoic acid (3-CAMPA) is a diagnostic agent that can be used for the diagnosis of cancer. It binds to DNA and alters the oxidation state of specific sites, which can be detected through spectrophotometric analysis. 3-CAMPA is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed by esterases in vivo to release an active form of 3-carboxymethyllysine (3-CML). 3-CML is a competitive inhibitor of lysine analogs and inhibits the growth of cells with lysine analog resistance, such as those found in cancers. 3-CAMPA also has a site specific binding affinity for dna Gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. This drug has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria and may have potential as a treatment for tuberculosis.
