Methyl (trimethylsilyl)acetate is a progesterone receptor modulator that is used in the treatment of metabolic disorders, such as diabetes. It has been shown to inhibit gene transcription and protein synthesis by acting as an unsymmetrical carbon. Methyl (trimethylsilyl)acetate also inhibits the production of phosphoranes, which are reactive oxygen species that can cause DNA damage. This agent has been shown to be effective at preventing radiation-induced cell death by inhibiting protrusion and cell proliferation. Methyl (trimethylsilyl)acetate is also able to prevent the formation of enolate ions by reacting with carbon tetrachloride.
