Dioctyl fumarate is a copolymer with dimethyl fumarate and polyvinyl alcohol. It has reactive functional groups, such as hydroxyl and carboxylic acid. Dioctyl fumarate has been used as a substrate film in the production of polycarbonate plastics. It is also used as a polymer in the manufacture of dyes and paints, as well as an intermediate for the preparation of other difunctional monomers.
