Description

N-[4-(2-Benzimidazolyl)phenyl]maleimide is a cationic compound that was designed to bind to specific antibodies. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by forming intramolecular hydrogen bonds with basic proteins in the bacterial cell wall, which leads to cell death. This compound has shown no activity against viruses or fungi. N-[4-(2-Benzimidazolyl)phenyl]maleimide also has low potency against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
