5-Chloro-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyridine is a functional group that is used in organic synthesis for the transformation of a variety of substrates. The product can be synthesized by cross-coupling reactions. 5-Chloro-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyridine can be reduced to benzyl alcohol with sodium borohydride or lithium aluminum hydride and then benzylated with benzyl chloride. This functional group is also an efficient synthetic intermediate for the synthesis of triazolopyridines. 5-Chloro-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyridine has been used as a biomolecular probe to study protein kinase activity and DNA replication.
