Description:

Calcium neodecanoate is a white, insoluble powder that consists of the carboxylate calcium salt of neodecanoic acid. It is used as a source of calcium in dietary supplements and for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia. Calcium neodecanoate is hydrolyzed to form calcium ions and decanoic acid, which can be oxidized by hydrochloric acid to produce hydrogen chloride gas. The fatty acid group on the decanoic acid molecule interacts with hydroxy groups on the surface of a solid electrode, producing an electric current that can be measured using an electrochemical cell. The average particle diameter of this substance is about 0.3 μm.
