Product Information
2-Methyl-5-nitronicotinamide is a pyrrole compound that has been shown to have anticoccidial activity in vivo. It has been found to inhibit the growth of coccidia by blocking the synthesis of cgmp-dependent proteins. 2-Methyl-5-nitronicotinamide has also been shown to inhibit the proliferation of Toxoplasma gondii, and may be used as a therapeutic agent for coccidiosis. It is also active against tenella, but not against Clostridium perfringens or Eimeria maxima. The anticoccidial activity of 2-methyl-5-nitronicotinamide may be due to its ability to inhibit the dehydration process in parasites, which causes cell death. This drug was synthesized experimentally and structurally characterized using carboxamides and methyl groups.
