Bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2,5-dione is a molecule that has been extensively studied in the context of its conformational, stereoselective and thermodynamic properties. The crystal structure of bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2,5-dione has been determined by X-ray crystallography to be an asymmetric system with a low symmetry point group of C3v (C3h) and space group P21/c. The molecule is planar and contains two hydroxyl groups which are not equivalent due to restricted rotation about the OCO bond axis at the carbonyl group. The vibrational spectrum of bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2,5-dione has been characterized by infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy and found to exhibit strong bands for the CO stretching mode at 1770 cm−1 and 1360 cm−
