Thieno[2,3-b]quinoline-2-carboxylic acid is a quinoline derivative that has been found to have antibacterial activity. It is formed by the reaction of a flavone with anhydrous potassium carbonate and irradiation. Thieno[2,3-b]quinoline-2-carboxylic acid inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA and RNA synthesis enzymes. This compound also has antioxidant properties and can be used as an antiseptic in the treatment of wounds or burns. The drug bioavailability of thieno[2,3-b]quinoline-2-carboxylic acid is increased by ultrasonication, refluxing in elemental analysis, or chloride ionization.
