Product Information
4-Isopropoxysalicylaldehyde is an organic compound with the formula (OCH2)2C6H3OCH(OH)CHO. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers. The molecule consists of a phenol group and an aldehyde group. The compound can be synthesized by the reaction of resorcinol with boron trifluoride diethyl etherate followed by acid hydrolysis. 4-Isopropoxysalicylaldehyde has been used as a synlett in the synthesis of calixarenes, which are macrocyclic molecules that are useful for their hydrophobic properties. The compound can also be used to produce monoalkylboranes, which are useful for their pyrophoric properties.
