3-Methoxyphenyl methanesulfonate (3MPMS) is a tosylate that can be used as a catalyst in cross-coupling reactions. In these reactions, the 3MPMS tosylate is converted to the corresponding mesylate and then reacts with an electrophile such as an alkene or alkyne. The resulting sulfonate product can be hydrolyzed and purified by crystallization. 3MPMS is also used in coupling reactions that involve thienyl and xphos ligands. These reactions are typically conducted at high temperatures (250 °C) in order to achieve high yields.
