- Benzenepropanoic Acid, Beta-(Aminomethyl)-4-Fluoro-
4-Amino-3-(4-fluorophenyl)butanoic acid is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to 4-amino-3-(4-fluorophenyl)butyric acid. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of carbamic acid esters, which are used as pharmaceuticals and research reagents. The oral dosage form is a prodrug for 4-amino-3-(4-fluorophenyl)butyric acid, which has been shown to be effective for the treatment of spasticity caused by multiple sclerosis and reflux disease. 4AFBBA has also been shown to be beneficial for those with reflux, due to its ability to inhibit gastric emptying. As a prodrug, it does not have any known side effects.
