1-(3-Amino-4,6-dimethyl-thieno[2,3-b]pyridin-2-yl)-ethanone (AMT) is a thiosemicarbazone that inhibits the synthesis of DNA. It blocks the nucleotide incorporation into DNA by binding to the enzyme DNA polymerase and inhibiting its activity. AMT has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against a wide range of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and Mycobacterium avium complex. AMT also has inhibitory effects on mammalian cytochrome P450 enzymes.
