Product Information
3-Sulfanyl-1lambda6-thiolane-1,1-dione is a novel compound that has been shown to have anti-cancer effects. It is synthesized from the precursor vinyl sulfide. The synthesis of 3-sulfanyl-1lambda6-thiolane-1,1-dione starts with the condensation of two molecules of vinyl sulfide to form vinyl sulfone. This reaction proceeds in an aqueous solution at room temperature and requires no catalyst. The next step is the addition of sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide to form 3-(hydroxymethyl)sulfanylpropanoic acid hydrochloride. The third step involves the addition of sodium hypochlorite in order to reduce the hydrochloride salt back into 3-(hydroxymethyl)sulfanylpropanoic acid. The fourth step is the addition of aluminum chloride in order to produce 3-(hydroxymethyl)sulfanyl
