It has been synthesised and characterized by single crystal x-ray diffraction. The compound is fluorescent in the visible region and has been shown to coordinate with 5-bromoisophthalic acid, which is one of its topological features. The elemental analysis of 1,4-Bis(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)butane shows it to be orthorhombic in structure and made up of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine and chlorine.
