Product Information
2-(4-Chlorophenyl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanone is an organic compound that has a catalytic effect on the reaction of ketones with organic halides. It can also be used for the synthesis of pentacarbonyl iron, which is an unsymmetrical carbon allotrope. This compound reacts with benzyl chloride in the presence of iron pentacarbonyl to produce benzaldehyde and cyclohexanone. Electrolysing this mixture yields 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanone and cyclohexanol. The reaction is catalysed by a metal such as nickel or platinum.
