Dichloro(1,2-diaminocyclohexane)platinum(II) is a platinum analog that has been used clinically for the treatment of cancer. It binds to DNA and inhibits DNA synthesis and repair by forming covalent bonds with the amino groups of proteins in the cell nucleus. Dichloro(1,2-diaminocyclohexane)platinum(II) has shown anticancer activity against CD-1 mice bearing heart tissue carcinoma cells as well as human ovarian carcinoma cell lines. It also has been shown to induce skin papillomas in CD-1 mice. This drug has not been found to be active against carbonyl group containing compounds such as dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR).
