4-(1H-Benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)aniline is an aromatic compound that is used as a catalyst in organic chemistry. It is also used to synthesize polysubstituted imidazoles and ammonium acetate, which are used in the production of polyaromatic hydrocarbons. This compound has been shown to catalyze the formation of benzil from benzaldehyde and ammonium chloride. This reaction can be accelerated by adding ammonium hydroxide solution. 4-(1H-Benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl)aniline has also been used to synthesize imidazoles by reacting with aldehydes such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, or propionaldehyde.
