Zoloperone is a drug that binds to the dopamine D3 receptor and serotonin transporter. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on rat liver microsomes, as well as on rat brain dopamine levels. Zoloperone is also able to bind to the D4 receptor. Chronic treatment with zoloperone has been shown to increase sensitivity of rats to drugs such as amphetamine and cocaine. This increased sensitivity may be due to the ability of zoloperone to interfere with dopamine release in the striatum, which may be due to its ability inhibit serotonin reuptake.
