Motilin is a peptide hormone that stimulates the movement of food through the digestive system. It is produced by the duodenum and jejunum, where it is stored and released in response to lower ester hydrochloride concentrations. Motilin has been shown to be effective for treating gastrointestinal disorders, such as bowel disease and ghrelin-induced carcinoid syndrome.
Motilin also has pharmacological properties that have been investigated for their role in treating heart conditions, such as congestive heart failure (CHF). In addition, recent research suggests that motilin may have a role in regulating appetite and weight gain.
