- Methyl 1,4-Dihydroxynaphthalene-2-Carboxylate
- 1,4-Dihydroxy-2Naphthoic Acid Methyl Ester
Methyl 1,4-dihydroxy-2-naphthoate is an organic compound with a radical scavenging activity. It has been shown to be cytotoxic and anticancerous against a variety of cancer cell lines. This compound also inhibits the growth of bacterial cells by interfering with protein synthesis. Methyl 1,4-dihydroxy-2-naphthoate binds to the pyridinium ring in the enzyme DNA gyrase and prevents it from maintaining the integrity of bacterial DNA. It also inhibits amine oxidases and activates phenyl groups, which are potent cytotoxicity inhibitors. Methyl 1,4-dihydroxy-2-naphthoate is synthesized by the reaction of methyl naphthaleneacetate with ammonium nitrate in a pyrrole system. Flavonoids have been found to inhibit steric interactions between methyl 1,4-dihydroxy-2-n
