Diethylene Glycol Isopropyl Methyl Ether (DEGIM) is a colorless, viscous liquid that is soluble in water. It is an organic solvent with a high boiling point, a low freezing point and a high vapor pressure. It is used as an ethylene-glycol substitute for the production of polymers, such as polystyrene, and as a polymerization initiator for the production of fluoropolymers. DEGIM also has glycol ether properties and can be used as solvents for other products like pigments or dyes. DEGIM has been shown to have low toxicity, although it may cause water absorption or light emission when ingested in large quantities.
