1,1-Diethylguanidine Sulfate (1,1-DEGS) is a water treatment chemical that is used to reduce the concentration of sulfate ions in effluent. The 1,1-DEGS will react with sulfates to form more stable compounds such as sulfides and various sulfuric acid esters. It is also used for catalytic oxidation of organic pollutants in wastewater. 1,1-DEGS has a low density of 0.8 g/cm3 and when combined with polypropylene can be used for pipeline stabilization. The 1,1-DEGS can also be diluted with water to achieve desired concentrations and has been shown to have biochemical activity at high concentrations.
