Product Information
Benzyl 3-hydroxybenzoate is an isomer of benzyl 3-hydroxybenzoate. Benzyl 3-hydroxybenzoate has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, including cell line A549. It also inhibits β-lactamase, an enzyme that is responsible for the degradation of β-lactam antibiotics. In addition, benzyl 3-hydroxybenzoate has been shown to be a good substrate for amide formation and can be synthesized by the reaction of benzaldehyde with hydroxylamine. Benzyl 3-hydroxybenzoate can also be obtained by reacting benzaldehyde with acetone in the presence of sodium methoxide. This process leads to two isomers: α-methylbenzyl alcohol and β-methylbenzyl alcohol. These two compounds are used in the synthesis of other organic compounds such as hemiketal and carbonyl groups.
