p-Amino-D-phenylalanine acid is a synthetic amino acid that is the racemate of L- and D- forms. It is an analog of the natural amino acid phenylalanine and has been used as a precursor in the synthesis of peptides, such as cyclosporin. p-Amino-D-phenylalanine acid has shown to have antimicrobial resistance against bacterial strains, including strains resistant to other antibiotics, such as methicillin or vancomycin. The enantiomer of this compound has been shown to be more active than the racemate at inhibiting bacterial growth. This molecule has also been used in analytical chemistry for determining the stereoselectivity of reactions.
