Product Information

Name:
Benzyl N-[1,3-dihydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)propan-2-yl]carbamate
Synonyms:
  • Phenylmethyl N-[2-hydroxy-1,1-bis(hydroxymethyl)ethyl]carbamate
Description:

Benzyl N-[1,3-dihydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)propan-2-yl]carbamate is a water soluble derivative of naproxen. It is synthesized by the condensation of 2-(hydroxymethyl)propanoic acid and benzaldehyde in the presence of ammonia. The resulting amide is then hydrolyzed to give the desired product. Benzyl N-[1,3-dihydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)propan-2-yl]carbamate has been shown to have antiinflammatory effects that are comparable to those of naproxen and other nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
