Description:
2-(4-Fluoro-phenyl)-8-methyl-imidazo[1,2-a]-pyridine-3-carbaldehyde is a heterocyclic compound that has been shown to have biological activity. It is an acid with the potential to form a hydroxyl group at the 2 position and an imine nitrogen at the 8 position. This compound also reacts with thiosemicarbazide to form a product called 2-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-8-methyleneimidazo-[1,2-a]pyridine 3(2H)-thione. The structure of this product has been confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Studies have shown that this compound is toxic when given in high doses to mice and rats. The toxicity may be due to its nitrogen atoms or oxidation products that are formed during metabolism.
