2-(1-methyl-1H-indol-2-yl)acetic acid is a pyrimidine that has been shown to have antiparkinsonian, analgesic, and antiinflammatory properties. It has also been used as a lead compound for the development of new drugs. 2-(1-methyl-1H-indol-2-yl)acetic acid is a competitive antagonist of benzatropine binding and blocks the activity of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors in the brain and peripheral tissues. This molecule also inhibits the enzyme dopamine beta hydroxylase, which converts dopamine to norepinephrine. 2-(1-methyl-1H-indol-2-yl)acetic acid has been shown to be effective in treating chronic pain or neuropathic pain when administered orally or intravenously.
