3-Ethoxy-5-methyl-1,2-oxazole is a vinylic, isoxazole that can be synthesized by reacting acetoacetic acid with methyl iodide in the presence of palladium acetate. It has been shown to have antagonist activity at metabotropic glutamate receptors and chloride channels. 3-Ethoxy-5-methyl-1,2-oxazole has also been shown to inhibit ibotenic acid induced excitotoxicity in mice. The synthesis of this compound was achieved using a Suzuki coupling reaction with arylboronic acids.
