Product Information
1-[4-(2-Phenylethyl)benzyl]naphthalene (1-BPB) is a chemical compound that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It can be used to cleave the carboxyl group from unactivated esters, amides, and nitriles under supercritical conditions. 1-BPB is also used as an oxidant for the conversion of various functional groups, such as nitro groups to amines. It can be used with hydrochloric acid and iron oxides to produce naphthenates, which are intermediates in the production of naphthalene. 1-BPB may be activated by heating or by treatment with organic solvents, such as benzene or chloroform. The reaction rate is dependent on temperature; it increases at higher temperatures and decreases at lower temperatures. At low temperatures, 1-BPB reacts slowly but efficiently with molybdenum metal on catalyst supports
