Product Information
Sodium 2-iodo-5-methylbenzenesulfonate is a hypervalent organic reagent that can be used in organic synthesis. It is produced by the oxidation of 5-methylbenzenesulfonic acid with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst such as oxone, which yields sodium 2-iodo-5-methylbenzenesulfonate and water. The reaction is catalytic, and the catalyst can be regenerated by adding pentavalent reagents such as organic compounds containing tin or lead to the reaction mixture. Sodium 2-iodo-5-methylbenzenesulfonate has been used for the synthesis of an intermediate for the synthesis of an antihypertensive agent.
