Product Information

Name:
Sevelamer hydrochloride
Description:

Sevelamer is a binder that binds to phosphorus and decreases its absorption from the intestine. It is used in the treatment of hyperphosphatemia, which is an abnormally high level of phosphate in the body. Sevelamer hydrochloride binds to phosphorus and prevents it from being absorbed by the body, primarily in the intestine. It has been shown to reduce low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and increase high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) levels, as well as decrease calcium levels in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. The long-term efficacy of sevelamer hydrochloride has been shown through a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial with an intent-to-treat population. There have been no significant drug interactions reported for sevelamer hydrochloride.
