4-Chloro-7-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-thieno[3,2-d]-pyrimidine (CLT) is a small molecule that has been shown to have antiinflammatory activity in skin cells and inflammatory bowel disease. CLT binds to the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and inhibits the activation of TLR4 signalling pathways, which are involved in the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as PGE2. CLT also inhibits epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signalling, which is involved in cellular inflammation and cancer development. CLT may be useful for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases as well as skin cancer.
