Description:
2-Hydroxy-5-({2-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]ethyl}amino)benzoic acid is a potent and selective inhibitor of mao-B, an enzyme involved in the synthesis of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It has been shown to attenuate hypertrophy in cultured myocytes and attenuate brain injury induced by cerebral ischemia. 2-Hydroxy-5-({2-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]ethyl}amino)benzoic acid has also been shown to be effective against reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species, which are associated with many diseases. This compound may be useful for the treatment of conditions such as stroke, Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury.
